Vigil

The funeral had been put on hold until Nyla and Jaden had been recovered and taken back to Kievis tomb. The fiery orange she-cat sat still and silent, smouldering in her own anger and pain and crying quietly as the sun began to sink low in the sky. Family and friends all gathered around for the last night to send Kievis off to her place in the stars. Jaden had calmed down a considerable amount, but he needed his brothers to support him as he lay at the steps of the tomb and wept.

Final Rest

“Is that… K-Kievis…?” Nyla whispered. Her wings shuffled awkwardly as she took a few small steps toward the little crowd gathered around the tomb holding Kievis’ body. Wily looked back, yanking so hard on one of her ears that she was starting to make it bleed. Kiha and Naiyad were at the very base of the steps, the smaller girl sobbing into her hands as her brother tried to comfort her through his own tears. Takka and Jaden sat a ways off, stone faced and silent. Kakoora was by Wily’s side, both hands on her stomach as she turned and looked at Nyla.

“Y-You’re late..” she called out, hurrying over to let her come sit down, but she stepped right over her aunt, starting to shake and whimper.

“That’s my s-sister..” she hissed. Naiyad’s ears perked up and he rose up to one knee slowly.

“That’s my sister in there, what happened to her..?”

“Nyla, we can explain after the prayer-.”

“What did they do to her?!” Nyla screamed, rushing forward. Naiyad leaped up and grabbed her by her waist, hauling her backwards as she spat tears and smoke. “Kievis!! Kievis?!”
“Nyla, be quiet, be quiet.” Her brother grunted, forcing her to sit down. Her claws made gashes in his arms as she pulled and clawed to get away, but after a short minute she collapsed against him, sobbing, and screaming curses at the sky. Her short fit had set Wily to crying again, burying her face in the ground.

All the while, Draykan had been at the very entrance to the tomb; it was locked now and guarded with a magical encryption only he could break. Two long, blue banners with small minecraftian text reading Kievis’ name covered the doors and the lock, and he was gripping the bottom of one and crying quietly into it. The depression and heart break in the air was suffocating; even the Earth seemed to know that a beautiful young heart had been taken away from her loved ones, and the birds were silent and the wind was still.

After what seemed like forever, someone began to sing, softly. No one moved, but then a set of ears twitched and swiveled around, trying to pinpoint the source. Nyla raised her head, cheeks wet with tears, ears pinned back. Naiyad did the same, then realized it was Kakoora singing, ‘Lovely Child’; an old lullaby Wily had sung to them a few times as babies.

Susaya’dahliax mea enoba, essna yo deya; Susaya’dahliax mea enoba, yo kazyl skog xyba…”

“Lovely child o’ my angel, never did you cry; lovely child o’ my angel, your life was full of light.

O’ sweet angel of mine your birth was blessed to me

O’ sweet angel of mine your heart was a sanctuary

Lovely child o’ my angel, now we say goodnight; lovely child o’ my angel, let your dreams be filled with light.”

The news hit the dragon like a tonne of bricks and he just froze for a few moments before falling onto his knees. Why…? She’d been the most carefree of them all. Without realizing it, some tears had begun to leak from his eyes as he lowered his head, still not speaking.

Wily felt like she had no words. She felt like she had cried all she could, as well, and could only purr brokenly as she hugged him, and willed his pain to ease and for the new burden on his heart to lighten. All she could whisper to him was, “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry.” over and over.

It took several minutes, but eventually his loud sobs died off into quiet shakes, and then several more for those to end for the most part. “… Who?” The dragon’s voice was just above a whisper. “… How?”

Wily wasn’t quite sure how she would explain their daughter’s death.
"I.. you’ve been gone for so long. The Savanna, you have to come see it." she muttered, tugging on his arm. "Please, you’ll understand better if you see the damage…"

"I’m so sorry, Draykan.." Wily whispered, hurrying over and grabbing one of his enormous hands in two of her much smaller ones. She had nothing to say, except to apologize to him, feeling responsible for the death of their daughter. She couldn’t say sorry; the words caught in her throat in a soft sob, so she just pushed her head against his side and began to purr, praying it would offer him at least a little comfort.

A few seconds after she took his hand, he pulled her into a tight hug, needing the familiar feel of his mate against him. Once the mudcat was hugged, his sobs finally broke out, and he managed to choke out “our daughter…”

Empty

"We’ll be preparing Kievis’ body for a funeral service, and making her atide away from the devastation on the savanna. Jaden called for his siblings to come as soon as possible… some kind of magic that they all share now. I hope they heard him, being so far away. Once we’ve all mourned and sat vigil, we’re going to rest, pack up what we can, and move.

Wily can’t stand being in this place any longer. She’s broken from losing Kievis, but it’s her choice…”

Koo looked over at Jaden as he sat down next to her with a bump.

"Naiyad and Kiha are on their way. No word from Nyla yet."
